PROLONGED SITTING? DO THIS!
Following these simple rules could save your life!
It is very easy to lose track of time whilst playing computer games, working or simply binge watching tv programmes.
Follow our three step guide to help prevent the development of DVT. Blood clots remain a major killer and, like Louis’ tragedy, the simple act of prolonged sitting, enjoying a passtime/interest or for work, can be enough alone. Remember, sitting for 90 minutes reduces the blood flow behind the knee by 50% increasing the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis. Be mindful about how long you are sitting. You might be fine, but when we share stories of our 24 year old son, an 18 year old girl and a boy as young as 13… and there are many more tragic stories, lets try prevent adding to them.
If you think yo have any symptoms of DVT or just unsure about an ongoing pain in your leg that you cannot explain, then get it checked.
- Stand Up
Take regular breaks and stand up. If sitting is a cause then standing is key to prevention. - Move Around
Moving around is important. The act of walking increases the blood flow to your legs. - Stay Hydrated
Dehydration is a known contributing factor to the development of DVT
